Cork Supply's proprietary washed range of natural corks is an excellent alternative to traditionally washed corks. The chlorine-free Alpha™ cork provides our customers with one of the most organoleptically 'clean' and aesthetically pleasing corks available.

The special cleaning process used for Alpha™ corks removes volatile compounds from the wood, providing a sensorily neutral cork. The corks are washed in a mild solution of hydrogen peroxide, an ideal antiseptic and cleansing agent. The corks are thoroughly rinsed in pressurised, purified water showers. For added protection, our Alpha™ corks are then neutralised in a solution of clean water and citric acid to remove any remaining residual oxidants. They are later carefully dried to stabilise the moisture below 8% and discourage microbiological growth.

This Alpha™ cork washing process has the following advantages:

Alpha™ corks have excellent surface disinfection for added protection against microbial growth during shipment and storage.

It produces corks that are relatively cork dust free.

No chlorine or oxalic acid residues are present which significantly reduces the potential for undesirable chlorine by-products (such as trichloroanisoles).
